The Campaign for Reparations

for Civilians Harmed by Armed Conflict

Mission Statement

To Establish a Global Convention and Treaty Defending the Rights of Civilians Impacted by Armed conflict to Reparations.

1. Build greater awareness of and compliance with International Humanitarian Law (IHL) and International Human Rights Law as a means for protection and peace building in conflict settings, focusing on civilians and actors locally engaged.
2. Build political will to make existing standards on reparations and associated remedies a reality for civilians in conflict-riven regions across the globe.
3. Establish reparations and associated remedies as legal, moral, and cultural norms that address humanitarian needs, heal deep-seated grievances, and restore justice.
4. Link civilians impacted by armed conflict, progressive individuals, governments, organizations, field practitioners in civil society, NGOs, and human rights organizations to expertise to advocate and assist in promoting and developing programs.

Armed Conflict and Consequences

In 2024, global military spending reached $2.72 trillion. This does not include $14-$17 trillion in additional costs such as loss of life, damage to property, disability, and economic losses, all largely borne by civilians living in conflict areas.  This makes the total cost of war $20 trillion—or seven times the level of military spending itself. Conflicts destroy approximately six times more economic value than nations spend on their armed forces.

There have been 4.5 million deaths from conflict globally since 2001.  Some 281 million people now live as international migrants, while a further 117 million individuals have been internally displaced by conflict, disaster, or persecution.
